We Met Aidan Turner!

August 3, 2013

It was almost time. There would be no more waiting. Nerves were electric and already we hadn’t slept for over 24 hours. Ready or not, here we come Boston!

It was pitch black night at 3am as we began the journey of all journeys: The road to Aidan Turner…and Dean. We almost felt crazy. How on earth did all of this even happen? No time to think - just go.

It took 5 hours. Leaving New Jersey and driving through the states of New York, Connecticut and arriving in Massachusetts. Final destination Boston Comic Con…The place where our dreams would come true.

9am We had arrived in the city…”but the cities wouldn’t be safe for long”… An Irishman was near..so very near.

We went to the Seaport Hotel to meet up with our good friend Amanda - @TheZenPhoenix - Fellow comrade and enthusiast of Aidan Turner…and Dean. Amanda was our guide with the vast knowledge of the location of the men in question. She would lead us to our destiny.

We entered the Con. People were everywhere. They looked like they were inhabitants of every planet in the solar system. Tall ones, short ones, green ones…. but stop! no time for distractions! We were told that the men we sought to find, were by the black curtains…Then to the black curtains we shall go with joy!

When we got there, to our astonishment, there were no lines. No waiting. Just empty stations where Aidan and Dean were supposed to sit….and in only a few breaths later, there HE was…

He moved his way through the crowd as if it were a dream-like sequence in slow motion…He was coming right our way. We couldn’t move. We couldn’t breath. Not yet! We were not ready!…

We held our breath as he walked past…then he turned, sparkles in his eyes, and gave us a huge smile and said “Hey guys!” We almost fell to the floor….but luckily we just held our own and smiled back as he took his throne, in front of the Kili poster.

Alarms started screaming in our heads similar to the sound of the red alert siren of the Star Trek Enterprise. We didn’t know what to do! We let a small group of confused people pass while we gathered our senses and our cameras and our money…

Amanda courageously took the lead and said “I will go first” A mighty brave warrior. Her courage is now legendary in these parts. She asked us to help document this moment of glory for her. We were only happy to take on this honorable task. She went forward and the IPhone photos rapidly commenced… but little did we know, we could not hide from the dazzling Irish eyes that knew all….We had been compromised! He pointed us out in merriment and good cheer and said….

It was time. The second half of our journey was about to begin.

The Great and Powerful Photo Op was at hand! Amanda lead us to the back of the con, through the forbidden doors. We were full of confidence…until we saw the line. It twisted and turned around the hallway like a King Cobra snake of costumed devotees. All of us waiting to enter the room of the many bright flashes at the end of the hall.

Painstakingly slow, each step, we moved forward…marching to our glorious doom…Intense anxiety and brilliant ecstasy awaited us all. FLASH! We moved closer. ANOTHER FLASH! Laughter from within the room of light. FLASH! We were up next….Our hearts were pounding as we rounded the corner…

….and there was Aidan!…and Dean! We didn’t know what to expect when Aidan looked our way and instantly welcomed us with open arms, saying “Hello again! Are you girls having a good time today?” We told him we were having a fantastic time! and warm hugs initiated, sweeping us off our feet. We told Aidan and Dean that “You guys made our year by coming here” They were so happy. We then got in the mode to take our first photo and suggested that we make it a boy, girl, boy, girl line-up to be different. They thought that was a good idea. Aidan pulled us in close to him and joked, saying “I hope you don’t mind if I hide my sweaty armpits behind you.” Do you think we cared?? Sweaty or not, it was Aidan all over! We huddled together, and Dean smiled on approvingly. The first historic picture of our lives was taken!

But it wasn’t over…We told Aidan. “We get another one.” Aidan was only happy to hear it. This time, we asked the guys, if they were up for “something silly”. Aidan was very willing to participate and awaited our suggestion. We told him that “We are from New Jersey, so how about a cool, mob pose, like the Sopranos?” Aidan’s eyes lit up and he was like “Yeah, let’s do it” He seemed really excited and very gung-ho! We all got into our positions… but suddenly Aidan started to giggle, not being able to hold his position and said “I think I better lower my gun” which made Dean and the photographer laugh. As we tried to keep our concentration on the photo, we almost cracked up too, but like pros we held our positions until Aidan got back into character and posed perfectly. He did the eyebrows!! YES!!

When the photo was flashed, Aidan was so impressed, he pointed to the photographer and said “That was one fucking awesome picture. I want a copy of that.”

We then went in for another round of goodbye hugs with the guys and snuck in a little kiss on the cheek. As we were leaving Aidan was smiling, asking Dean, “Do I have lipstick on my face?” They were having fun and the photographer laughed and all was right with the world!

And thus concludes our adventures of our road to Aidan Turner…and Dean.

The End…Or is it?

It’s safe to say that we will never forget this day as long as we live! :D We are very happy :)
